Emergency Contacts
A quick-reference list of South African emergency numbers. Visit Gauteng
Effective: 30 September 2026
What this page is
This page lists the South African emergency numbers you can call when you need help. It is published as a public-interest reference only. We do not run an emergency response service. We do not dispatch police, medics, fire fighters or private security on your behalf.
South African emergency numbers
-
Police: 10111
-
Ambulance / Fire: 10177
-
Universal mobile emergency: 112
-
In a real emergency, dial one of these numbers directly. Do not use the contact forms on Visit Gauteng in an emergency. They are checked during business hours only and cannot get help to you in time.
Sharing your location
If you need to share your location with someone you trust, the Safety Hub in the More tab lets you copy a Google Maps link to your current GPS coordinates. It asks for your location only when you tap the button, and does not send it anywhere on its own. It only helps you put the information together for a phone call or message.
No acceptance required
Unlike most other documents on Visit Gauteng, you do not need to accept anything to view or use this page. It is informational.
Limits and disclaimers
Numbers may change at the discretion of the relevant authority and may not connect from every network at all times. Coverage and response are the responsibility of the dispatching service. Visit Gauteng cannot guarantee that any specific call will be answered, that a response will arrive within any specific time, or that the information here is exhaustive of every service available in the province.
