Terms of Service

Visit Gauteng (the "Platform") is the official tourism platform of the Gauteng Tourism Authority (the "GTA", "we", "us"), a provincial public entity established under the Gauteng Tourism Act 10 of 2001. The Platform is available at visit.gauteng.net and as an installable app. The GTA operates the Platform and is the party you contract with under these terms. The GTA appoints a service provider to develop, host and maintain the Platform on its behalf, under a written agreement and on the GTA's instructions.

The Platform lets you discover Gauteng's attractions, experiences, events and business venues; send booking requests and enquiries to the businesses that offer them; buy products from local vendors in the Marketplace; follow the Live feed; and use travel tools. Some features are introduced in stages. Where a feature has its own terms, those terms are shown before you use it.

The GTA is the platform operator. Tourism businesses, venues, vendors and event organisers that list on the Platform are independent businesses. They are the suppliers of their own experiences, goods and events, and they are responsible for them.

• You must be at least 18 years old to create an account.

  • Give accurate information and keep it up to date.

  • Keep your password secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.

  • One account per person. A vendor or organiser account represents the business registered to it.

  • You may close your account at any time (see the Data Deletion page).

You must use the Platform lawfully and in line with our Acceptable Use Policy and Community Guidelines. In particular, you may not post unlawful, abusive, defamatory, discriminatory or sexually explicit content; impersonate anyone; interfere with the Platform (for example by large-scale scraping, attacks or exploiting bugs); or take transactions off the Platform to avoid fees.

• Attraction and experience bookings: you send a booking request to the business that offers the experience. Your agreement for that experience is with that business. See the Booking Terms.

  • Marketplace orders: you buy products from independent vendors. The GTA runs the Marketplace, collects payment and arranges delivery on the vendors' behalf. See the Marketplace Buyer Terms, Returns Policy and Shipping Policy.

  • Event tickets: where ticket sales are offered, the Events & Ticketing Terms apply.

Payments made through the Platform are collected by the GTA as merchant of record and processed by Paystack, a licensed payment service provider. We do not see or store your full card details. Prices are in South African Rand and include VAT where applicable. The total, including any delivery or service fee, is shown before you pay.

You keep ownership of the photos, posts, reviews and other content you contribute. By posting, you grant the GTA a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, display, share and adapt that content on the Platform and in the GTA's tourism promotion of Gauteng. You confirm that you own the content or are entitled to post it. We may remove content that breaks these terms or the law.

The Platform, the Visit Gauteng name and brand, and the content we publish are owned by or licensed to the GTA. You may not copy, modify or redistribute any substantial part of the Platform without our written permission.

We take care to keep information accurate, but listings, prices, opening times and availability are supplied by the businesses that list them and can change. Check important details with the business before you travel. The Platform may link to other websites and services that we do not control.

Please read this clause carefully. Some experiences and events listed on the Platform, such as adventure, outdoor, wildlife and sporting activities, carry a risk of injury, loss or damage. The business that provides the activity is responsible for running it safely. You take part voluntarily and must follow the provider's safety instructions and conditions. This clause does not excuse anyone for loss caused by their own negligence where the law does not allow that.

Please read this clause carefully. To the extent the law allows, the GTA is not liable for loss caused by the acts or omissions of the independent businesses that list on the Platform, or for indirect or consequential loss. Where the GTA is liable to you, its total liability is limited to the amount you paid through the Platform for the transaction concerned. Nothing in these terms limits liability for gross negligence or intentional misconduct, or any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 or other law that cannot be excluded.

We may suspend or close an account, or remove content or listings, if these terms or the law are breached, or to protect users or the Platform. Where it is appropriate and safe to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond.

We may update these terms. If a change is material, we will tell you in the app or by email, and ask you to accept the updated terms before you continue using the affected features. The effective date above shows the current version.

If something goes wrong, contact the business concerned first. If it is not resolved, email admin@visitgauteng.net and we will help. This does not limit your rights under the Consumer Protection Act or any other law.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Disputes that cannot be resolved in good faith may be referred to a South African court with jurisdiction.
