Licences
Third-Party Licences
The software and design components we use from others, and the licences they are used under.

About this page
Visit Gauteng is built in part from components made by other people and shared under open licences. This page lists those components, who holds the copyright, and the licence each one is used under. We publish it so that anyone receiving a component as part of this platform can see its terms, and because some of those licences ask us to pass the notice on.
This page covers components that are built into the platform, whether they run in your browser or on our servers. It does not cover the separate services we connect to, such as payment, delivery or analytics providers, which are described in the Privacy Policy.
We update this page when we add or remove a component.
Typefaces
The fonts used across Visit Gauteng are served from our own servers rather than from a font service. Each is used under the SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1, and none carries a Reserved Font Name.
-
Geologica, used for headings. Copyright 2020 The Geologisk Project Authors (https://github.com/monokromskriftforlag/geologisk).
-
Figtree, used for body text. Copyright 2022 The Figtree Project Authors (https://github.com/erikdkennedy/figtree).
-
Caveat, used for handwritten accents. Copyright 2014 The Caveat Project Authors (https://github.com/googlefonts/caveat).
The SIL Open Font License, Version 1.1, allows these fonts to be used, studied, changed and redistributed freely, as long as they are not sold on their own and any copy carries this notice and the licence. The full licence is at https://openfontlicense.org.
Software in the app
The pages you use are built with open-source software, some of which is sent to your browser as part of the app and some of which runs on our servers. The main components sent to your browser are:
-
Used under the MIT Licence: React, React DOM and Next.js, which the app is built on; react-markdown, which shows pages like this one; Zustand, which remembers your cart; Tailwind Merge and clsx, which handle styling; react-hot-toast, which shows the small messages that appear after an action; Zod, which checks what you type into forms; qr-scanner and qrcode, which read and draw QR codes; and the Sentry browser software, which reports errors to us so we can fix them.
-
Auth.js (next-auth), which signs you in and keeps you signed in, used under the ISC Licence.
-
Leaflet, which draws the maps. Copyright 2010 to 2023 Volodymyr Agafonkin, copyright 2010 to 2011 CloudMade, used under the BSD 2-Clause Licence.
-
react-leaflet, which connects Leaflet to the app. Copyright 2020 Paul Le Cam and contributors, used under the Hippocratic License 2.1.
The MIT, ISC and BSD licences allow this software to be used and redistributed freely, as long as the copyright notice and licence travel with it, which is what this page does. The full text of each is available on request.
A complete list of every open-source component in the platform, including those that run only on our servers, is being prepared and will be published here.
Map data
Maps in the app use map data from OpenStreetMap, copyright OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL). Map images are served by the OpenStreetMap Foundation. The attribution is shown on each map, and the licence is at https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright.
