★ 4.5Lory Park Zoo & Owl Sanctuary is one of Gauteng's most loved family destinations, set on 5 hectares in Midrand between Johannesburg and Pretoria. Established in 2000 as a small owl sanctuary, it has grown into a full-scale animal park home to big cats, reptiles, meerkats, porcupines, and over 200 bird species.
Visitors can enjoy up-close animal encounters throughout the day. Weekend highlights include Big Cat Talks, Owl Encounters, and Meerkat feeds , giving guests a rare chance to observe these animals at very close range. The park also has a dedicated reptile house with resident snakes, tortoises, and monitor lizards.
Lory Park is fully fenced and malaria-free, making it perfectly safe for young children and international visitors. The park features shaded picnic areas, a kiosk, and ample parking. Guided educational tours are available for school groups and are aligned with the South African curriculum.
Opening hours are 10:00 to 16:30 daily. Encounters and talks run on weekends and public holidays, so timing your visit for a weekend guarantees the best experience.
